How To Use Your Pigments

How to use your pigments

These water based pigments are for Jesmonite® AC100, AC300, AC730, and other plaster/gypsum-based eco-resins or cement (NOT for epoxy resin).

  • Shake the bottle well for at least 1 minute; pigments can settle over time.
  • Add pigments to the Jesmonite® or polymer liquid before adding the base powder.
  • Stir the pigment and liquid thoroughly to get an even colour, then add the powder.
  • Avoid adding pigment directly to the powder or mould.
  • Follow Jesmonite® guidelines: use pigments up to 2% of the total mix (e.g., 20g pigment per 1kg mix).
  • You only need a few drops for a couple of coasters.
  • Keep bottles tightly sealed to prevent drying out.

Achieving the shades you want

Get creative! You can explore endless shades by varying the pigment concentration or mixing my blends together for unique colors. Always mix the pigment into the Jesmonite® or polymer liquid first.

  • Concentration Tips: The pigments are highly concentrated—a few drops go a long way. For pastel shades, start with a tiny amount (a pinprick using a toothpick) and gradually build up. For deeper colors, add pigment one drop at a time until you reach the desired shade.
  • Mixing Tips: Jesmonite® and eco-resin powders are whitish pink, so the liquid mix will lighten when you add the powder. Light shades usually dry even lighter, and darker shades can dry darker, so experiment to find the perfect balance.
  • Important Reminder: Mix the tinted liquid and powder thoroughly to avoid a mottled effect in your final piece.
  • Creative Effects: For marble or ombre effects, mix smaller amounts of different shades. For terrazzo, create batches of chips, set them, and add them to your main mixture.

How to seal your pieces

  • Protect your INTERIOR Jesmonite® or plaster/gypsum eco-resin home decor products with my “Finishing Touch 100% Natural Coconut Oil & Soy Wax Sealer”.
  • This should make your final colour slightly more vivid and add a lovely sheen.
  • It adds a splash proof protection but is NOT 100% waterproof or dishwasher safe.
  • Not for use on outdoor products or candle containers
